I have a new diet for all those desperately seeking the perfect recipe for weight loss; eat fat! Not bad fats, but good fats. The fat has to be natural so no saturated fats or processed food. My friend from the food industry rants and raves about the evil carbohydrates that have infiltrated our lives and especially the sugars that he believes will be deemed as bad as smoking in 20 years time. This does make me giggle; the thought that you might need to be over a certain age to responsibly buy a chocolate bar or the image of kids sneakily eating a bag of haribo down an ill-lit alleyway.
Anyway he has started his new fat diet and so far he has lost a stone and a half. So where's the science?
I don't really know, because I am not a scientist, but I do know that your body has to work extra hard to burn off protein and fat, so by eating fat you are making your body exercise itself to digest the food. This is why the Dukan diet has proved so successful for all those skinny celebs. I did the Dukan diet before Christmas and it certainly does work, but it is not particularly pleasant as the first week is just protein and from there you start to introduce certain vegetables; it is meant to be a complete lifestyle change, a diet for life. BUT there is no way I could stick to that, I prefer everything in moderation. However if you are one of those people that can't do moderation, i.e. you buy a packet of biscuits and they are gone within an hour, don't buy the biscuits!
So if you feel like treating yourself, go for a big juicy steak and ditch the crisps and sweets.
